What's Radical control?

Free radicals

Recently, you might have often seen the term “free radicals” or “active oxygen” in health- or beauty-related magazines or advertisements. “Free radicals” is generic term for any reactive molecular species. It is said they may be the cause of the serious sickness including the adult diseases or the cancers when excessively exists or generated.

Examples of free radicals: O2(superoxide anion), ・OH(hydroxyl radicals), and LOOH (lipoperoxide). These free radicals are produced in abundance following exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, irritant chemical substances (including make-up ingredients), and stress. Due to their high reactivity, free radicals attack and destroy nearby living tissue immediately after they are produced, causing various skin problems and illnesses. Just as iron rusts when left exposed to air, living tissue can undergo progressive degradation beyond repair over time. It is necessary to protect yourself against the harmful effects of these free radicals in order to keep your skin and body healthy.

Radical Control

It has been clarified that fullerene[60], which is composed of 60 carbon atoms, shows an interesting feature of high reactivity with free radicals. Thus, we focused our research on investigating the antioxidant properties of fullerenes.

“Radical Control” is an innovative concept proposed by us; it refers to a process by which the generation of free radicals is suppressed and existing free radicals are eliminated by fullerenes, before they begin to harm the human body.

Our goal is to develop products for not only improving skin conditions but also for healing illnesses through Radical Control. We want to help you improve your Quality of Life and stay healthy all the time. This is the desire of us, Vitamin C60 BioResearch Corporation.

Our First Product - Radical Sponge

We focused our research on an attractive property of fullerenes?their antioxidant property.

We thought that fullerenes could be used as cosmetic ingredients. However, it was difficult to blend them with cosmetics, because they are insoluble in water. We developed a technology to stably dissolve fullerenes in water by wrapping them with a water-soluble polymer. This technology facilitates the blending of fullerenes with various types of cosmetics, and fullerenes are now used in cosmetic products.

Radical Sponge is the world’s first fullerene-based cosmetic ingredient.

It removes free radicals that cause skin problems, just as you wash off dirt with the sponge.
It is a novel cosmetic product that has shown reliable evidence of both safety and stability.

Research Evidences of the Safety and Efficacy of Radical Sponge

The effects of Radical Sponge have been verified by, researchers who are pioneers in studies of skin science. Here, we will list some of the results of the dermatological research on Radical Sponge.

The above results have been presented at the meetings of the academic societies listed below.

Japanese Cosmetic Science Society (http://www.jcss.jp/index.html), The Chemical Society of Japan (http://www.chemistry.or.jp/), Japanese Dermatological Association (http://www.dermatol.or.jp/), The Aesthetic Dermatology, Society of Non-Traditional Technology (http://www.sntt.or.jp/), International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) (http://www.ifscc.org), American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) (http://www.aslms.org), Scientific Conference of Asian Societies of Cosmetic Scientists (ASCS) (http://www.ascs.jp), The Fullerenes and Nanotubes Research Society(http://fullerene-jp.org/).

We will continue the extensive research and development, and we hope that the fascinating effects of Radical Sponge will be widely recognized.
