To control radicals is to control the future of human health. We are working to contribute to a healthy future through the innovative concept of Fullerene suppression of radicals (reactive molecular species, including active oxygen, said to be the cause of 90% of today's diseases) or through the elimination of generated radicals before they can attack or harm the living body. "Radical ControlTM" is the name given to a concept proposed by the Vitamin C60 BioResearch Corporation to apply Fullerene to the prevention and relief of various forms of skin damage. The aim is to provide people with permanently healthy skin, and, in the long term, to treat existing illnesses with Fullerene therapies.
It may be an unfamiliar use of the term, but "radical" is a generic name given to any reactive molecular species, including active oxygen, that is harmful to living organisms. Examples include ・O2- (superoxide anion radicals), ・OH (hydroxide radicals), ・NO (nitrogen oxide radicals), and lipoperoxide. These radicals are produced in abundance by ultraviolet radiation, irritant chemical substances (including make up ingredients), and stress. Due to their high reactivity, radicals begin to attack and destroy nearby living tissue immediately after production, causing various skin problems and illnesses. Just as iron is corroded when left to rust, the deterioration of living tissue over time can advance beyond repair. We suggest that you bear these radicals in mind the next time you select a cosmetic product.

As you know, a sponge is used to absorb water and dirt. Our Radical Sponge® works in a similar manner, absorbing the radicals that damage the skin. First, Fullerene is carefully purified, resulting in the production of biocompatible Fullerene (BioFullereneTM). BioFullereneTM is then used to manufacture Radical Sponge®, the world's first Fullerene-based cosmetic ingredient and the fruit of extensive research and development. The effects of Fullerene are maximized in Radical Sponge®, which can easily be applied to and absorbed by the skin. The product is designed to remain in the epidermis and protect the keratinocyte that forms the corneum and the melanocyte, the key players in skin protection, from harmful radicals. |

The effects of Radical Sponge® have been confirmed by Professor Nobuhiko Miwa of the Laboratory of Cell-Death Control Bio-Technology at Hiroshima Prefectural University School of Biosciences. Prof. Miwa, a pioneer in skin-science studies, is renowned for his research on the beautifying effects of vitamin C, vitamin C derivatives (such as provitamin), and acerola juice. Here, we will introduce some of the results of the dermatological research collaboration between Prof. Miwa and our company.

The above results have been presented at the meetings of academic societies listed below.

When skin is subjected to stimuli such as ultraviolet radiation, radicals (reactive molecular species, including active oxygen) are generated that attack and destroy the tissues of the skin. To protect itself from these radicals, the skin produces a dark pigment (melanin) to block the ultraviolet radiation that is the initial causal factor. This is the mechanism involved in the sun-tan process.
Melanin is technically the enemy in terms of whiter skin, but this substance in fact plays a beneficial role in protecting the skin from ultraviolet radiation and the resultant radicals.
What happens when the production of essential, protective melanin is halted by whitening ingredients?
With nothing to block the violent stimulus of ultraviolet radiation, radicals are generated continuously, causing cell death and ultimately leading to visible aging, with symptoms such as spots, wrinkles, and sagging.
Our goal as skin specialists, from cosmetic dermatologists to cosmetic surgeons, is certainly not to promote white skin at the expense of healthy skin. But what if the radicals produced by ultraviolet radiation could be eliminated and suppressed using Radical Sponge®? The attacks on skin tissue would then cease, possibly preventing skin-cell death in what is effectively an anti-aging process. This would also stop the production of melanin, since radicals known to activate melanocytes and promote melanin production will no longer be present (resulting in desirable whitening effects). Thus, unlike conventional whitening methods, which merely inhibit melanin production, this approach aims at a fundamental solution that balances whitening with anti-aging features through control of the radicals that form the source of skin problems. Our company refers to this beneficial effect as AAWTM (Anti-Aging Whitening).
If you want the best garden stuff, you naturally ask the owner of the green grocer for advice. Similarly, we believe that when seeking advice on skin problems and cosmetics, it's always best to consult the experts. Our company thus introduced Radical Sponge® first to skin specialists - such as cosmetic dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons - in the belief that these users would be best qualified to assess its effectiveness. The product has been notably well received among these specialists; as a result, chances are that you'll be introduced to Radical Sponge® by a dermatologist - this is why we call our line the "Doctors' Cosmetics." Unfortunately, Radical Sponge® remains an extremely expensive cosmetic ingredient, and so it may be some time before it can be used in general consumer products.
"Control radicals and control your future."
We have developed the concept of "Radical ControlTM", dedicated to future human health.
