LipoFullerene is a fullerene-containing vegetable squalane, and it is used as a cosmetic ingredient.
Although fullerenes have low solubility in hydrocarbon oils such as squalane, we have been
successful in stably dissolving them in vegetable squalane. LipoFullerene smoothly blends with
oil-based cosmetics such as creams, skin milks,essential beauty oils, cleansing oils, and aromatic
oils for massage, because of its high affinity for oil. It contributes to improving the texture of
cosmetics because squalane is well suited for with human skin. Since it is wine red in color,
creams blended with LipoFullerene acquire an elegant light pinkcolor.

Because fullerenes are completely insoluble in water, intact fullerenes cannot be blended in
cosmetics such as lotions and creams.As a result of continuing research, we have developed a
technique that enables the wrapping of fullerenes with polyvinylpyrrolidone and stably disperse
the clathrates into water. Radical Sponge is a product that has been developed on the basis of this
technique. It is a hydrophilic cosmetic ingredient that can be blended into various cosmetics such
as skin toners, creams, cleansing waters, foundations, and face masks.

Generally, fullerenes used for industrial purposes contain high levels of impurities in the form of
organic solvents, and thus, they are considered unsuitable for biological applications. We have
developed techniques for removing the organic solvent from fullerenes used for industrial purposes.
